PMO - Sr Project Start-Up Engineer - Thermal

Accountable for the technical start- up leadership for large, high-profile orders. The Senior Project Startup Engineer (SPSE) is required to establish, promote and maintain excellent rapport with all customers, co-workers, sales representatives and others as appropriate for executing the startup of the Vertiv equipment. The SPSE is also required to maintain continuous communication with Site Manager (SM) when applicable.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS




Five years of field experience

Possess HVAC/R certificate

Possess EPA certificate

Able to read program point drawings and program controllers

Primary point of contact for customer on-site when an SM is not on site or not assigned

Responsible for sitting in customer/ GC coordination meetings when an SM is not on site or not assigned

Responsible for communicating and disseminating project/ site information to all team members when an SM is not on site or not assigned

Accountable for the technical execution of all Vertiv equipment at site

The SPSE will take the lead and be accountable for the following tasks

Monitor the skill sets for resources arriving on site. Ensure resource is truly qualified to do the work. Perform site safety audits as required.

Ensure Vertiv tooling and vehicles are well maintained, and tooling properly calibrated, at all time.

SPSE has a major support in the following:

Support start-up and site testing activities for assigned projects

Ensure sufficient resources are on site each day to perform start-up and site testing work

Assist during start-up and site testing as necessary, depending upon resource availability and site location

Provide first level of tech support assistance to speed up problem resolution

Arrange proper test equipment and heavy equipment (such as load banks), ensure all is on site at the times required

Coordinate subcontracted services (such as ERS, breaker testing, thermal scanning, etc.) when provided by Vertiv Electrical Reliability Services (ERS) or Vertiv High Voltage Maintenance (HVM)

Work directly with suppliers on problem resolution (such as switchgear and breaker vendors)

Provide daily status reports to Project Management

Support District Offices, or Power Technical Support, as requested for projects not directly assigned to by the Project Field Operations Manager

Provide a first line of high-level technical support on-site for critical customer problem resolutions

Provide On-the-Job training and on-site direction to associates for assigned projects

Conduct field customer training for assigned projects as required

Communicate with National Technical Support on equipment issues

Keep current on Safety Bulletins, Safety Field Change Notices, Field Change Notices, and Service Tips

Coordinate start-up and site testing activities for assigned projects before it begins

Review site testing requirements and service items provided in the job submittal

Review customer or third-party test procedures, match to what was sold with the order

Assist Project Field Operations Manager in man-power needs for the job

Gather all documentation for job (submittals, as-built drawings, in-house test procedures)

Tag equipment and open start-up & site testing tickets

Initiate SFA requests for custom made test procedures, when provided by Vertiv and sold with the equipment

Responsible for driving the personal and/or team implementation of "Safety as a Value"

Ensure that all work is performed in a safe manner and ensure that all safety measures are met.

Ensure zero safety incidents.

Ensure zero service incidents.

Adhere to company dress policy at all times.

Maintain a utilization rate of 85%

Promote accident prevention and safety awareness.

Notify (Phone Call) the Project Manager and Project Field Operations Mgr immediately if a safety or service incident occurs. Take care of the individual or safe off the equipment first, then make the call.

SPSE duties requires up to three weeks travel then four-day trip home.

Ensure all resources are equipped properly and using the appropriate PPE. This includes 3rd party subcontractors.

Submit resource requirements to the Project Field Ops Mgr when the need is realized.

Assist Project Mgr with Coordinating all parts, equipment, paperwork and sub-contractors required to execute the Project.

Monitor the skill sets for resources arriving on site. Ensure resource is truly qualified to do the work. Perform site safety audits as required.

Ensure time entry is recorded against the correct ticket and work done code.

Ensure Vertiv tooling and vehicles are well maintained, and tooling properly calibrated, at all time.

The SPSE role is your primary role, but CE tech work will be necessary when time allows, and is required in order to maintain overall productivity, utilization and help keep project schedules on track.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:




Bachelor's and/ or Technical Degree and/or equivalent industry experience required

Computer proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Excellent interpersonal skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


While performing duties of the above jobs, the associate is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or other components; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear and smell. The associate frequently is required to sit and climb or balance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must have ability to regularly lift at least 50 pounds.


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS




Willing to travel anywhere in North America ~80% of the time. Schedule is dependent upon project work and is flexible to the degree it can be. This is worked out on a case by case basis with your assigned project manager. PTO scheduled in advance can and will be accommodated.

Does NOT require relocation to a Vertiv headquarter or regional office at this time.

This is "project work" which typical projects last anywhere from 6-12 months on average. It can vary based on schedule and progress.

Options for downtime (i.e. in between projects), employee can take PTO, training, regional work, and "home office" work.

Typical schedule is to work 4-6 weeks and then 1-2 weeks back at "home base" depending on project schedule. This varies based on the phase of the project.

Expect to receive accelerated on-job-training (OJT) and experience due to the nature of this work. Excellent career jump start and then settle down in a region (if and when you choose to do so)
